In life, he had been an enforcer within the ranks for the Irish 'mob' in Chicago that dominated the political structure since 1870. At the time of his death, he would have been at the recieving end of what would have been a number of fatal bullets for a shootout with the rivaling Italian mafia. However, Elena de Martine came to him as he laying dying in the streets.
A month after his 'death', the persons responsible for the shootout alongside bystanders were found brutally murdered within a speakeasy on the south side of the city. The legs of the victims and either been broken or torn off, the bodies drained of blood. Elena and Ian would then disappear for nearly a decade.
In the 1930's, a man fitting Ian's description appeared in Germany going by the name Hans Cullen, the owner of a rather lucrative steel mill. 'Cullen' also made a number of cheap fine art purchases from fleeing German Jews. These works of art are believed to be the base of what would become his future vast fortune. He was frequently seen with his own enforcers; Shane Maloney, an associate from his Chicago gangster days ;and Rolf Gruber, a German 'brother' also sired by Elena.

Of course, Elena, going by the name of Ilsa, was frequently in the area. These four are believed to be responsible for some of the worst atrocities commited within our written records, though there is no concrete evidence for all of them. Maloney and Gruber themselves are the confirmed killers of the German Slayer of that generation. There is rumour that Ian ordered the execution and had her delivered in pieces to the Council over a 6 month period after her Watcher became too inquisitive regarding his affairs. Following WWII, Elena and Ian vanished once more, though Maloney and Gruber were spotted in various places from Spain to Russia over the next 20 years.
In 1978, Ian and Elena resurfaced as Michael and Sophia Sheridan. They appeared as art dealers in Philadelphia and then New York where 'Michael' would disperse his growing wealth in hotel chains and later the growing electronics industry. He would go on to form the Electronicorp business.
In 1982, there were a string of rather severe cases of arson. They are believed to be the work of Maloney and Gruber who had followed their associates to New York city. Why arson was used has not been solid proved. One theory states it was both to cover up vampire victims and warnings to business rivals.
Ronald Peterson, the Watcher of the slain Slayer of 1944 was found dead in his retirement home, dismembered that same year. There had been no sign of forced entry, but Ian and Elena are both suspected as being responsible with either or both Maloney and Gruber as accomplices. Once more, both Elena and Ian vanished. This time, both Maloney and Gruber faded away as well.
They would come back again in 1991 in Tampa, Florida. At the same time, Maloney's work could be seen across his native Ireland while Gruber remained in the state of New York. Elena and Ian made a number of trips to Britain, presumably to meet with Maloney, but it's only speculative. Upon their return to Tampa, Elena claimed the life of Hailey the Vampire Slayer in a long battle outside of the city. Her grief-stricken Watcher, Susanna Quinn attacked the vampires in a day time assault. Elena is a confirmed casualty, but it is not known if Ian Reilly persished as well. In the best interests of safety, until there is a confirmation, caution should still be exercised.
Ian Reilly is famous for his vindicative and brutal nature. He also possesses a very shrewd mindset and is a master manipulator. As his past exploits have proven, he is extraordinarily patient. He can wait decades to finally finish off a target after a long set of mind games. He also has vast resources at his disposal. He is believed to still be the owner of Electronicorp, based in New York, NY. A supplier of a variety of devices from surveillance cameras to missiles, he possesses greath wealth, enabling him to hire others to do his bidding. Rarely does his take action himself, prefering to send subordinates to do his dirty work. He has a number of both human and demon followers and at least one shaman under his employ.
Recently, Electronicorp has opened as office in Los Angeles and has been linked to Wolfram and Hart. Both Maloney and Gruber have been sighted in the outer vicinity of the city. Given these factors, if Ian Reilly still lives, he is very likely somewhere in Southern California, though as of 14 July 2002, there have been no sightings.
